- My Family is an
Old Kashmiri Family.
- This implies that our
ancestors migrated from Kashmir, generations ago and settled in
different parts of the country.
- My
Grandfather was
Late Shri Shambhu Nathji Kaul, whose family belonged to
Delhi and my Grandmother Late Smt Roopanji Kaul nee Langar, whose family belonged to
Lahore.
- My Grandfather was
working in the Department of Gardens for the erstwhile King of
Kashmir, before independence, and therefore,
moved back to Kashmir, where he built a house in
Ushkara Village, Baramulla. The Family, however had to vacate
the house and escape to Srinagar during the 1965 Raid by the Kabailis from Pakistan,
while the Indian Army took
over the House and the Six Canals of Land and my family could
never go back. The Army has now Formally acquired the property.
- My Father did his
Graduation from Srinagar and then moved to Delhi to look for a
job. Once he was settled in Delhi, the whole family moved to
Delhi and took up rented accomodation at
5C/41, New Rohtak Road,
New Delhi 110005.
- As was the norm in
those days, my grandparents had lots of children. My
Aunts and Uncles in order of age are:
- Late Pyariji, wife
of Late BL Raina of Lucknow a Lawyer by profession.
- Late Capt (IN)
Avtar Kishan Kaul, VSM, husband of
Asha nee Prabha Soman
(Sister of the first Chief of Naval Staff post Independence
Late Admiral BS Soman).
